You are finished with the in-class part of the tutorial. Below are two assignments that you will finish independently either at home or in the Laboratory for Computational Chemistry and Biochemistry using the program of your choice.
Using the program of your choice, create an image of the active site of the enzyme chymotrypsin. The image should minimally convey the following information:
Hints on how to accomplish this assignment with the program PyMol are given on next pages.
Pick a number between 1-42 and follow instructions in this link to get the name of a macromolecule that you will write a short nonfiction story about. Good starting points for the material are the RCSB Molecule of the Month and the InterPro Protein of the Month web sites. You are allowed to use any other material that you find from the web, books, or scientific journals. Restrict the length of your essay to 1 page plus one illustration that you have created yourself using SYBYL, PyMOL, or any program listed below. Please do not plagiarize, i.e. copying a paragraph directly from a web site to your paper is not allowed! You are allowed to use additional images that other people have created if you give appropriate credits but note that you should create the main illustration yourself.
