Chem 1B Chemistry Limericks

Introduction:

  • Let's have some fun with Chemistry. Use your knowledge, humor and wit, to entertain and educate your peers. Write a limerick for extra credit. Here are some examples of limericks:
(A) The compounds of sodium are great,
(A) If you can tell the chloride from chlorate.
(B) The one makes fried chips,
(B) Taste good on your lips,
(A) The other clears weeds from your gate.
The soil had so much uranium
It killed my prize geranium.
It would have won shows
But now it just glows
Enough to light up a stadium.
  • A limerick is a poem containing five lines. It has a very distinctive rhythm and rhyme pattern.
  • The last words of the first, second, and fifth lines all rhyme with each other ("A" above).
  • The last words of the third and fourth lines rhyme with each other ("B” above).
  • The first, second, and fifth lines all have this rhythm pattern: da DUM da da DUM da da DUM.
  • The third and fourth lines have a different rhythm pattern: da DUM da da DUM
  • 3 points extra credit will be given for completing the assignment.
  • The two best limericks of each chapter will get an additional 2 points (5 points total) and will be read in class.
